Integrating Faith
The teaching of our faith should never be limited to just religion class. Religion class should never just be the memorization of facts, dogmas, statements of beliefs and prayers. As Catholic Educators, we are responsible for bringing our faith into every interaction and conversation with others. This is how we live out our faith and make it real for our students. Pope Paul IV in his encyclical Gravissium Educationis states that Catholic education is about the:
Formation of boys and girls who will be good citizens of this world, loving God and neighbor and enriching society with the leaven of the Gospel, and who will also be citizens of the world to come, thus fulfilling their destiny to become saints.
In order to spark some creative insights, the DIocese of Baltimore has created a resource to assist you in this endeavor.
Your challenge for this is to think outside the box, and it is a two-fold process.
  1. How do you create a learning community that is based on Catholic pedagogy?
  2. How do you bring our faith within the content areas?
On the discussion page, please post a lesson plan integrating faith into a lesson (other than Religion) that includes the following:
  1. Objective/Goal of your Lesson
  2. Materials
  3. Procedure
  4. Student Assessment/Evaluation
  5. Personal reflection on:
  • Why is the Catholic faith dimension a key component of every discipline?
  • How did your lesson go?
  • What would you change/keep?
